Happy new year! Thank you once more for your donation. You can expect to get your rewards (unless you didn’t ask for any) over the next few months. I’m creating a Bastards web page where your name will be listed as one of the magnificent people who backed the project. Thanks to my son Nathaniel James for his support with my website and social networking. Two graphic designers are working on the Bastards logo to go on the T-shirt and poster. I’ll send you a separate update about progress on the film itself, when I have definite post production dates in place. Meanwhile, here’s a link to another online article http://muslimvoices.org/film-tackles-illegitimacy-morocco It uses a great photo sourced from Flickr … Thanks, as ever, Deborah

Thank you. Merci. Shukran. The goal has been achieved. Thank you for your generosity and humanity. Support has come from around the world from my family and friends, fellow documentary makers and broadcasters, and people I have never met or heard of, from all walks of life, from America to Australia to Afghanistan ….. women and men, Muslims and non-Muslims, Moroccans with personal experiences of suffering as an illegitimate child themselves, and Westerners simply touched by their situation. The total raised is £10,158, from 204 backers. There have been 4542 views of the video. I have 161 followers on Twitter, having started my account a month ago, I have many likes and comments on my new Facebook page, and numerous Moroccan online papers have featured the film, as well as...

A huge trumpet fanfare of thanks to all you generous decent good people, 185 of you all over the world, some complete strangers, some my oldest friends, and some of you the most talented programme makers and actors in the UK. We are so very nearly there, at £9356. I can’t thank you enough. (See below for a picture of how I feel. I was dancing with Rabha, her sister and sister in law.) This is absolutely not to ask you for more money – you have done your part – but if you know anyone who fleetingly expressed interest but hasn’t pledged, please remind them that they have 44 hours left. The deadline is the very beginning of New Year’s Eve at 1am – these are Kickstarter’s rules. So...

I’m not sure exactly who is watching the the video but there have been 4004 plays, which is very gratifying…..I guess that many of the viewers are not wealthy people around the Arab and Muslim world, judging by the response on Twitter, where there are many messages of support and apologies for not being able to pledge. For new backers, thank you so much for coming on board, and please read the previous updates which you can find by clicking on the Updates tab above the video link. There is just one week of the campaign left, so if you know anyone else who might like to back the film, please do encourage them to do so before the New Year’s Eve deadline. I am incredibly grateful to every one...

There has been quite a bit of discussion in French on Facebook which I will send on to the Casablanca charity L’Association Solidarite Feminine. Do any of my English speaking backers have views on whether Morocco should be called a Muslim society? I call it that because its laws are shaped by Islamic law, but I do realise that not everything that happens in Morocco is because of its religion. Thanks to all my friends who support me…….Merci a tous mes amis qui me soutienent ….. Thank you to Martin Shipton, excellent journalist on the Western Mail, who discovered the project and wrote a full page article which is now online here http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/2012/12/20/filmmaker-s-obsession-is-to-help-the-single-mums-of-arab-slums-91466-32469907/ Pledges are coming in fast now, with 24 in the last 24 hours. The project is 52% funded and I just received a cheque for £500 from a well-wisher who prefers not to pledge via the web. Thank you to everyone who is helping to make this film possible. Deborah

Great news! The UK’s premier documentary festival Sheffield Doc/Fest has chosen Bastards as one of the projects it loves on its own Kickstarter page https://www.kickstarter.com/pages/sheffdocfest The fate of single mothers in Morocco, on the frontline of feminism. We want these stories to get told. Thank you to all my backers and everyone who has recommended the project. Best wishes, Deborah

Thanks to you, my 102 fantastic backers, £4036 has been pledged. There is huge interest in the film, as the website video has been viewed 3023 times, and Twitter continues to be busy, with some heartfelt pleas from Moroccans and other Muslims to get the story told. Clearly you want the film to be made, so could I ask you a favour please? Could you find one like-minded person who would pledge? If all my backers managed to do this, I might be able to double the numbers and we’d be nearly there! As you know, it’s all or nothing…. I have to raise pledges worth £10,000 by New Year’s Eve. Thank you for believing in the film – I promise I won’t let you down. With thanks and best...
